ABOUT US

Chocolates La Perla del Pacífico is a Colombian brand of artisanal chocolate that was born in San Andrés de Tumaco, Nariño, and arrives in Bogotá D.C. as a tribute to an ancestral territory full of biodiversity, culture and tradition.

We work with cocoa coming directly from small producers in the Tumaqueña region—rivers, paths, community councils and indigenous reservations—who grow some of the best cocoa in the world, influenced by the Pacific Ocean, its climate and its people.

Our chocolates are made under the bean to bar process, giving life to bitter cocoa bars in different percentages and artisanal signature chocolates. Each creation fuses the unique notes of cocoa with Colombian fruits, liqueurs, herbs and spices, offering an authentic and unforgettable sensory experience.

Beyond chocolate, we believe in transformation. We promote fair trade, promote legal and sustainable economies, and contribute to the construction of peace through the empowerment of communities affected by conflict.

More than chocolate, we create stories of origin, resilience and hope

LEGENDS FOR MY CHOCOLATES

COCOA: FLAVOR AND AROMA OF TUMACO

Cocoa, considered the food of the gods, the favorite drink of kings and the vital food of several generations, through centuries has left a sparkling trail in the region of Tumaco, awarded for being the owners of one of the best in the world for the quality of the grain, its flavor and aroma.

Through an initiative for the productive transformation of cocoa, families in the region who have experienced the impact of the armed conflict, violence and the presence of groups outside the Law and a relationship with coca, motivated by children of the territory taking up arms who, in an act of cultural and social recomposition, are linked to a new dynamic to improve their quality of life by replacing illegal economies such as coca, with a culture of legality through the transformation of cocoa.

With this bet called “the Pearl of the Pacific” we invite you to delight in a product that emerged from a patient journey made with love and dedication applying traditional sowing, harvesting and drying techniques grain by grain. To then toast and grind it until reaching this final product. Enjoy a collective transformation effort to eradicate illicit crops and reconcile former combatants who are children of the territory with a life in peace, through a productive strategy in the Tumaco region.  Enjoy "Cacao La Perla"

AN OWN SEAL

Mayans, Aztecs and Incas claim the paternity of cocoa, but the cocoa growers of the Tumaco region consider it born in their roots, as a symbol of the productive culture of the Colombian Pacific, the same one that was planted by those who are known worldwide as the Tumaco culture - the Tolita, aborigines who immortalized works in gold, silver, copper and platinum, leaving a global mark in pieces such as: pendants, rings, nose rings, masks, bracelets, and pieces like the “Sol de Oro” today considered Colombian heritage.

This goldsmithing was transferred to the artisanal consumption of cocoa in different ways: ground with stones, with metal mills and root “grinders” (beaters). Holding the essence of what is considered the best cocoa in Colombia, we bring to your palate the richness of an ancestral tradition contained in each cocoa bean. A product planted and harvested by Afro-descendant families in areas plagued by violence and the presence of armed groups, who together decided to replace coca leaf crops with this ancestral product, being clear that growing cocoa is a path to building peace.

THE PEARL OF THE PACIFIC

Tumaco -according to a local legend- is known as “the Pearl of the Pacific”, due to the discovery of the largest pearl found in the world, but its most precious treasure is cocoa, whose trees have been present in the region for more than two hundred years and constitute a productive heritage and cultural identity.

From there this product gets its name, a pearl that shines today thanks to the initiative of children of the territory who one day took the path of arms and upon realizing the suffering of their own people due to their actions and the presence of illicit crops, leading a process of collective resilience, they abandoned their weapons and promoted a new life project in the region: replacing illegal economies such as coca, with a culture of legality through the transformation of cocoa.

A Tumacan jewel made with a cocoa bean that dazzles the planet for its quality, aroma and flavor, among the best in the world, the result of the efforts of families in the region who have lived related to crops for illicit use, and today are linked to this productive dynamic in order to improve their quality of life within the framework of legality.

AN ELIXIR FOR JOY

Despite the violence and armed conflict, the inhabitants of Tumaco have never lost their most precious asset: joy. A virtue that is reflected in their cultural identity, also attributed to the consumption of cocoa, thanks to the fact that it is a precursor of serotonin, known as “the hormone of happiness”, a neurotransmitter with the function of regulating mood, sleep, appetite, heart rate, body temperature, sensitivity and intellectual functions.

Cocoa contains theobromine, a substance that stimulates the nervous system, which causes enthusiasm, animation and happiness when consumed. In addition, it promotes the production of endorphins, which produces a better mood, effective in combating physical or mental stress.

So many positive properties that cocoa has are brought together in this product, an effort of collective resistance to reduce and eliminate crops for illicit use, through a productive strategy in the Tumaco region.

THREE RED FISH

After traveling the seas of the world, three vigorous red fish fell asleep in the estuaries of the Pacific coast of Nariño, where lulled by the breeze and waves they settled forever. The tide covered them with sand and soon the exuberant vegetation grew, giving rise to TUMACO, distributed on the islands of El Morro, La Viciosa and El Pindo, one after the other on the back of each snapper.

The Tumac Indians populated it and when they mixed with the children of Africa who in search of freedom chose this territory marked by estuaries and mangroves, together they planted cocoa in this mythical land.

From that bewitching territory comes the richest cocoa in flavor and aroma in Colombia, a product planted by Afro-descendant families in areas plagued by violence, with the presence of armed groups, which, from the beginning of autonomy in a collective effort, decided to replace coca leaf crops with this ancestral product, being clear that growing cocoa is a path to building peace.
